About This Project
The source imagery in these paintings look at violence, conflict and the complexity of relationships in colonial/post colonial societies. The paintings themselves however are intended to suggest possibilities that exists outside of the deterministic view that may be implied by work that points to the past in order to understand present manifestations of social discord. Through pattern and repetition the images are liberated from their weighty history. As objects for meditation the paintings are a stop sign, suggesting to viewers the necessity of halting the trajectory that propels them from past events to future actions.
